Our School

Located in the Wanskuck neighborhood, Veazie Street Elementary serves approximately 500 students from PreK to grade 5. The school implements blended learning to promote small group instruction. Like many of our District schools, Veazie Elementary prioritizes social emotional learning and proactively identifies students in need of additional supports. The school has integrated ESL instruction and special education services in a general education setting.  Veazie Street also offers programming for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder where they receive instruction in a small group setting.

A Unified Campus for a Unified Community: Providence Public Schools Breaks Ground on New Assa Messer/West Broadway PK-8 School

Providence, RI — The Providence Public School District (PPSD) broke ground on the new Assa Messer/West Broadway PK-8 School Monday afternoon. The $62.5 million project will unite the two schools into one modern, purpose-built facility. 

The new four-story building will replace the aging elementary school. It will feature dedicated Pre-K spaces, separate learning and bathroom spaces for younger and older students, and upgraded technology and safety systems.

PROVIDENCE’S CLASSICAL HIGH SCHOOL EARNS FIVE-STAR RATING IN 2025 ACCOUNTABILITY RESULTS

PROVIDENCE, RI - A Providence Public School District (PPSD) school, Classical High School, has achieved a five-star rating in the Rhode Island Department of Education’s (RIDE) recently released 2025 school and district accountability results. Improving in achievement, growth, and English Language Proficiency (ELP), Classical is one of only 19 schools statewide that earned a 5-star rating, and only one of two high schools that received 5-stars.

Providence Public Schools to Host  Annual School Choice Fair

The Providence Public School District (PPSD) will host its annual School Choice Fair on Thursday, November 13. The event allows families of rising kindergartners, middle school and high school students to explore the school options available for the 2026-2027 school year.

“Providence Public Schools offer a diverse array of programs that empower families to choose the learning environment best aligned to meet your child’s unique talents and aspirations,” Superintendent Dr. Javier Montañez said. “We are committed to making sure students are prepared for success in college, career and life. The School Choice Fair gives students and their families a chance to see how they can take the first step to turn their dreams into a reality.”

Providence Public Schools Achieves Major Milestone in Early Childhood Special Education Lawsuit

Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green and Providence Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Javier Montañez today announced the formal closure of a federal class-action lawsuit concerning early childhood special education services in the Providence school district. The closure of the lawsuit follows a final report from an independent monitor confirming the district’s substantial compliance with the terms of the settlement agreement.

State, City, and PPSD Leaders to Celebrate Next Phase of Historic School  Construction Plan with Groundbreaking of Mount Pleasant High School

The Providence Public School District (PPSD) celebrated an exciting milestone today as State, City, and District leaders gathered in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood of Providence for the groundbreaking of the future Mount Pleasant High School Campus. The groundbreaking ceremony marks a significant step in PPSD’s commitment to providing every student with modern, high-quality learning environments as part of the District’s historic $1 billion school facilities improvement plan.
